Warner to go Blu?

05 Nov 2007 15:10

Warner seems keen on Blu-ray Do you remember that song Blue Monday by popular 80s band New Order? Well, if you do you will quickly see that its title is very apt today, and could even be re-titled Blu Monday, as we at mangotango are here to fill you in on some interesting Blu-ray news.

Like what we did there with the song and everything? Thought you would.

Anyway, what we want to tell you is that despite having a neutral position on the whole second-generation DVD thing, it appears that Warner Home Video may have turned around and become a Blu-ray backer.

Last week, at the Blu-ray Festival in Hollywood, Dan Silverberg, vice president of high-definition media for the studio, revealed that it may be about to give up its neutrality.

He noted the reason behind the decision was that consumers aren't bothered about a choice between formats and that they want to have a clear home entertainment option.

"Now that hardware pricing is affordable for both Blu-ray and HD DVD, it appears consumers no longer want to decide - so the notion of staying in two formats for the duration is something we are re-evaluating now that we are in the fourth quarter," he said, adding: "We can definitely talk Blu-ray. We are committed to the format."
