New Sony TV in time for Christmas

Take Sony, for instance. The tip-top electronics firm has revealed that it will be launching a brand new type of flat-panel television in Japan this December, and it could well be a rival for liquid crystal displays.
The organic light-emitting diode (Oled) television is the world's first and the 11-inch model will be released on December 11th. Priced at JPY200,000 (£847) it is just three millimetres thick.
Oled technology relies on the ability of particular organic chemicals to emit their own light when an electric current is applied to them. Screens for Oled televisions do not need a backlight and as such they can be ultra-thin but still produce good quality images - and with a lower energy cost!
Katsumi Ihara, the Japanese firm's executive deputy president, commented: "I don't think Oled TVs will replace LCD TVs overnight. But I do believe this is a type of technology with very high potential, something that will come after LCD TVs."
